Abstract

This Critical Note aims to reflect on the origin of the new coronavirus in interface with the agrifood system. To this end, opinion texts, reports, scientific articles and materials selected in a press review, during the months of March and April 2020, on the origin of Covid-19 were analyzed. From the point of view of the sociology of science controversies, the documents analyzed show disputes over narratives about the original of the new coronavirus. As much as there are efforts to understand Covid-19, its history is not yet fully known, although the links between human health and animal health could not be clearer. The experts have been unanimous in stating that it is necessary (i) an interdisciplinar approach, integrated and collaborative between different disciplines to account for the pathologies of globalization, (ii) a citizen science that considers the actors, their territories, and that recognizes nature also endowed with rights to find safe possibilities for a post-coronavirus world, and (iii) a One Health global capable of reconnecting with the environment and democratizing life.
