It is a qualitative and descriptive cross-sectional study. State directors members of the MMC were interviewed (n = 10). The results from the interviews demonstrated knowledge of the interviewees about food sovereignty and food and nutrition security. The difficulties found by them for the production is the lack of government incentives and the lack of appreciation for marketing. As potentialities, the production of organic and diverse food generates quality of life. Regarding the changes that occurred in their lives, they report the autonomy and freedom of choice in planting, financial improvement, and plenty of healthy foods. It can be concluded that the study group has clarity on the understanding of food sovereignty. Although, they bring a perception somewhat limited about what food and nutrition security is.
