With the objective to evaluate the production of green manure and the residual effect on the growth of chives grown in the arid zone of Alagoas was carried out in a randomized block experiment, treatments were seven species of legumes and spontaneous vegetation. Was evaluated at flowering Legume: Fresh and dry matter; content and nutrient uptake. Plant residues were in the field and were incorporated into the soil, chives was planted and at the 60 day were accomplished growth assessments. The results indicate higher fresh and dry weight; B and C content; Extraction of N, P and Mg and B in pulses. Legume residues provided greater number of leaves, smaller diameter of the bulb and dry biomass the chives. Legume species showed potential for use as green manure. The spontaneous vegetation in conventional chives crops should not be indicated as green manure. As long as it is cultrated with cautions.
