In order to evaluate the sprouting yam Purple (Dioscorea trifida Lf) to obtain seedlings through different parts of the tuber. An experiment was conducted in the area ofcrop production, Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, located in the southern sector of the campus of the Federal University of Amazonas, in the period from December 2011 to August 2012. The test consisted of four treatments consisted of: control (character integer), the apical, medial, and distal. All of them planted in polyethylene bags with a capacity of 2 kg of substrate. The experiment was conducted in a greenhouse covered with 50% shade, arranged in a completely randomized design with five replications. After 45 days, we evaluated the survival rate, mortality and number of shoots. The results showed a significant difference (p <0.05) between treatments. In this sense, it seems that for the production of seedlings yam farmers must use the tubers seeds whole or its apical part.
