Abstract

This study had the objective evaluate in a participatory manner with the farmer, the effect of organic and conventional management of coffee on the quality of soil and the crop.The studied farm is located in the district of Santa Clara, city of Iúna-ES were evaluated in the following treatments: coffee under organic management (CORG), coffee under conventional management (CCONV) and natural forest (MTN) which was obtained as a reference for data comparison. Soil samples were collected in the projection of the coffee canopy at 0-10 cm depth. The results showed soil fertility median for both production systems. The soil under organic management had organic carbon 45% higher than soils under conventional management. The soil under organic management had higher sustainability compared to conventional indicators of soil quality.
