Abstract

This work rescues the signification of the term sustainable development and highlights the different implicit ideologies in two streams of thought: the ecotechnocratic and the ecosocial one. From the analysis of these focus of development, it can be noticed the unsustainability of the conventional agriculture, and, however, it is outstanding the principles of the Agroecology in the construction process of the style of sustainable agriculture. This perspective approaches the agroforestry systems utilizationas a strategy to the promotion of the sustainable rural development. Based on bibliographic revision, three projects about agroforestry in the family farming are analyzed, in distinct Brazilian biomes. Nevertheless, it can be concluded these projects have characteristics that may be potentiated as development alternatives showing positive results not only to environmental protection, but also concerning economic earnings and social improvements of the envolved population
