Participatory mapping, planning and territorial heritage. La Quebrada de Humahuaca (Jujuy, Argentina)

The Quebrada de Humahuaca, located in the province of Jujuy, Argentine, underwent territorial transformation processes linked to heritage and tourism. In 2003 it was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List and, along with other changes and public policies, it became a privileged tourist destination. Thus, new problems arose and existing ones increased. This scenario promotes the construction of a precarious habitat, more vulnerable to natural disasters and the deterioration of the landscape because of unplanned activities, as well as higher levels of conflict. Therefore,the objective of this article is to identify the territorial transformations and the related conflicts that arose. To do this, we propose to overlap the perspective of academic and technical studies with some participatory methodologies to map the socio-territorial conflict. Thanks to participatory mapping and the co-construction of knowledge, other local narratives of the territory were generated, which dispute national and universal heritage valuations.
