Puerto Vallarta is a tourist destination located on the Pacific Ocean coast of Mexico. The community built an architectural heritage modeled with various codes, covering traditional and modern expressions that entwined in a pleasant village that blend with the landscape and natural environment. This attribute was one of the competitive advantages at the start as a recreational center but with the adoption of the massive model, these attractions entered into disuse amidst the accelerated process of urban transformation and the extraction of common goods. In the paper, are discussed institutional efforts to safeguard local heritage, suggesting the relevance of reconciling the interests around territory, heritage and tourism.
