Daylighting perception in residential spaces according to users

Abstract

In Brazil, both NBR 15.575:2013 and NBR 15.215:2005 are in the process of being revised, including new evaluation indexes related to human preferences. Thus, this study aimed to understand the perception of occupants in the use of residential space to support eventual normatization indications. The methodology consisted of conducting an on-line questionnaire, applied in 2020, with 542 valid responses from all over the country. The Likert scale was used to analyze the results. The results showed that residences located in dense regions had the worst weighted averages in the evaluation of the quality of daylight and that the presence of larger openings for lighting, in turn, generated better results. In the kitchens, it was found that the indirect lighting by the service area, as well as the kitchen layout affect the perception of the availability of daylight of the space, this being the second environment indicated as being of higher priority for good daylighting. It was also found that there is a demand for better daylighting of the bathrooms. Generally speaking, the results reveal a correlation between factors that influence the daylight availability and the perception of users, and its consideration is considered of paramount importance for the adequate definition of metrics of the Brazilian regulations.

Claudia Rocha Guidi, Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais, Escola de Arquitetura, Departamento de Tecnologia da Arquitetura e Urbanismo

Master in Built Environment and Sustainable Heritage from the School of Architecture and Design at the Federal University of Minas Gerais (2018). Architect and Urbanist from the Federal University of Minas Gerais (2010). Experienced in the field of Architecture and Urbanism, mainly working on residential and commercial architecture projects. Has experience in the approval of architectural projects by municipal agencies.

Roberta Souza, Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais

Recipient of a Faculty Research Grant in Technological Development and Innovative Extension (Level II) from CNPq. Graduated in Architecture from UFMG (1990), she obtained her master's degree (1997) and PhD (2004) in Civil Engineering from UFSC, with a sandwich PhD at the Polytechnic University of Madrid. She has been an Associate Professor at the School of Architecture of UFMG (EAUFMG) since 1997, where she teaches in the Architecture and Urbanism courses and the Graduate Program in Built Environment and Sustainable Heritage. She has also been a co-supervisor in the Structural Engineering and Mechanical Engineering programs at UFMG. She coordinates the Laboratory of Environmental Comfort and Energy Efficiency at EAUFMG. She is a member of the Extension Center of the School of Architecture and a representative in the Applied Social Sciences area of the UFMG Research Pro-Rectory

Bruno Guimarães de Melo Almeida, Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais, Escola de Arquitetura, Departamento de Tecnologia da Arquitetura e Urbanismo

Undergraduate student in the Architecture and Urbanism program at the Federal University of Minas Gerais. Recipient of an undergraduate research grant at the Laboratory of Environmental Comfort and Energy Efficiency of the Built Environment (LABCON EA-UFMG), working on the topic of natural lighting in dense spaces.

Carolina Lemonge Amorim, Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais, Escola de Arquitetura, Departamento de Tecnologia da Arquitetura e Urbanismo

She holds an interdisciplinary degree in Arts and Design from the Federal University of Juiz de Fora (2016-2018). She participated in the extension projects "Memorial of the Republic President Itamar Franco" (2018) and "Support, Production, and Guided Tours at the Cine-Theatro Central" (2019-2020). Currently, she is a student of Architecture and Urbanism at the Federal University of Minas Gerais (EAUFMG). Conducts scientific research in the field of Natural Lighting, as part of the project "Natural Lighting in the Urban Context," at the Laboratory of Environmental Comfort and Energy Efficiency of the Built Environment (LABCON-EAUFMG), funded by a CNPq scholarship.

Giovanna Barreto de Souza Machado, Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais, Escola de Arquitetura, Departamento de Tecnologia da Arquitetura e Urbanismo

Architecture and Urbanism student at the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG). In 2021, he participated in the extension project "Cursinho Popular Guimarães Rosa" as a writing tutor. Conducts scientific research in the field of Natural Lighting, as part of the project "Natural Lighting in the Urban Context," associated with the Laboratory of Environmental Comfort and Energy Efficiency of the Built Environment (LABCON-EAUFMG).
