Soluções estruturais na obra de Oscar Niemeyer

Abstract

Technology only becomes exciting when manifested through visual expression. And in this sense, a magnificent work of Oscar Niemeyer (1907- 2012), integrating the art of the architect and engineer, presents us with a wealth of details, forms and creative genius. His work, moving between two poles, the architecture and structural engineering, bears the seal of the imagination, the design which flows in simple wave of his hand, even in imaginary space, can devise new ways. But this design comes imbued with a knowledge structure, the intrinsic potential of the new material, reinforced concrete, he takes to the extreme of its structural possibilities, doing often as Auguste Perret said, “chanter les d’appuis points” ¹. Whole, however primitive it may be, idealized or built form requires a structural system and its building process. One thing is derived from the other. The theme that we will examine - structural solutions adopted in the work of Oscar Niemeyer - is no exception. With a vast work, it was necessary to identify some of the most relevant projects. The criterion of choice took into account their architectural expressiveness combined with unique structural solution.
