The perceptions of task-based teaching by Chinese teachers of Portuguese as a foreign language

This study aimed to investigate the perceptions of Chinese teachers of Portuguese as a foreign language regarding task-based learning. A questionnaire survey was carried out with the participation of twenty-five informants. Results showed that teachers had limited knowledge concerning methodological principles of task-based language teaching, but they recognized some benefits on adopting this approach to develop learners’ communicative competence. This study can raise relevant issues on the perceptions of language teachers in Asian versus Western contexts.
