Résumé

Dictionary use is a key to autonomous learning as a part of a learner-centered curriculum. Spanish students' dictionary use in English as a Second Language classes in Secondary Schools was analyzed over several academic years. The aim of the experiments was to show the importance of dictionary use in teaching and its role as a tool for learning (mainly) vocabulary and word grammar. Reference needs, dictionary use, attitudes, and skills involved in learning English were analyzed. This article presents the results and conclusions of part of this study, especially those dealing with translation activities, focusing on the use of bilingual dictionaries.
