Abstract

The purpose of this article is to present some key ideas about the three medieval manuscripts from the “Biblioteca Central” (BCE) of the University of Brasilia (UnB): “Diálogos de S. Gregório” (Dialogues of St Gregory), “Vidas de Santos” (Lives of Saints) e “Livro das Aves” (Book of the Birds). Those manuscripts came from the portuguese universe of medieval religious books, in which universe the religious has a main role, as all over the Christian Western. The medieval manuscripts of the UnB were not result of a latin intertwined text, but a translation to Portuguese in order to facilitate the understanding of the public to whom they were destined: mainly clergymen (regular or secular), even though without excluding secular readers
