Abstract

The treaty of Vitruvius was decisive for the classical and renaissance architecture, but it is relevant also for the aesthetic theory, because it discusses the conjunction of the utility with the beautiful, something that since Kant has been questioned, because he wanted to see the artist as a genius with full freedom to create.
