Abstract

Realistic art is essential for individuals to understand the contradictions of reality, particularly in modern societies where alienation prevails. In addition to art, the scholar also plays a mediating role, utilizing their critical activity to reach layers of society that artistic works cannot access. In that regard, this work aims to discuss the importance of art as a mediator of reality and the role of scholars in social critique and intervention within capitalist contexts. Its methodology consists of a comparative literary analysis, focusing on the works of Antonio Candido and Pier Paolo Pasolini. The results suggest that these writers manage to harmonize political and aesthetic aspects in their literary analyses, representing an organic and honest critique even in scenarios of oppression.
