When the word is incommunicable: the poetry of Emily Dickinson

Emily Dickinson searched for the acceptance and the approval of the public of her time, especially through the authority of male personalities to whom she addressed by the use of letters. Considering historical and social elements, the present paper analyses some strategies the poet used so as to communicate with the world and the readers, as well investigates the reasons for the incommunicability of her poetry, through a brief historical analyses of the New England of that time.
