SCIENTIFIC ACTIVITY AND SOCIAL PARTICIPATION: THE IDEOLOGY OF THE AUTONOMY OF SCIENCE
Keywords:
ATIVIDADE CIENTÍFICAAbstract
This article seeks to stimulate the discussion about scientific activity by
identifying the origins of the idea of autonomy as opposed to postulations which
favour social control over science or the necessity of its attachment to ethical or
moral principles. In analysing several of the more important texts in the Sociology
of Science, the author underlines their ideological aspects, while pointing up
the relevance of the present debate in Brazil and the necessity of a participative
legitimation of scientific activity in Brazilian society.
