Abstract

A didactic sequence in the format of a Potentially Significant Teaching Unit (PSTU) is proposed for the teaching of relativistic kinematics, based on the book An illustrated guide to relativity, Takeuchi (2010). Classes will be divided into the following topics: study on referential, study on relative speed, study on relative speed in the space-time diagram, study on the speed of light, study on relativistic relative speed in the space-time diagram, study on causality in the diagram space-time, study on synchronization of clocks in the space-time diagram, study on the dilation of clocks in the space-time diagram and study on Lorentz contraction. The sequence includes a class for quantitative problem solving and another class for qualitative questions, which will use the active methodology, peer instruction, peer instruction, to achieve a consolidation of learning. It is expected that in PSTU, Galileo's classical kinematics will facilitate the fulfillment of relativistic kinematics and that peer instruction will facilitate learning through peer interactions.
