Abstract

This work deals with the application of an educational product of 5 meetings held during 8 hours/class that contextualized part of the subject of waves with X-ray exams (electromagnetic waves). It started with a brief discussion about X-ray exams, so that students could perceive the reality of routines of exams for medical diagnosis in their daily lives, with the application of a questionnaire to assess knowledge and previous associations of contents on waves and ionizing radiation. One of the product's goals involved raising awareness about preventive exams, as in the case of breast cancer, and with that, part of the work involved the school community with the national breast cancer prevention campaign called “Outubro Rosa”. This educational product was worked with students to engage the school community in beneficial activities related to daily life and interdisciplinarity in a joint project with knowledge of biology and chemistry. The evaluation of the educational product was made through the reapplication of the questionnaire applied to verify the understanding and importance of knowledge on the subject.
