Brand personality in the hotel industry: an analysis of the BioHotel association

Abstract

The present study aimed to identify the personality of the hotel brand BioHotel, according to the Brand Personality Scale (BPS) by Jennifer Aaker (1997), developed with the purpose of identifying the identity traits of brands in different segments, including hotels. The green hotel association called BioHotels participated in this research in the analysis and determination of the personality of the hotel brand, in which five BioHotels in Germany were investigated. The research has a descriptive and exploratory qualitative and quantitative approach and used as a means of data collection a questionnaire prepared according to the dimensions of the research instrument. In the analysis of the material obtained, after an individual and joint verification of the data, it was observed that of the five dimensions of the BPS (Sincerity, Excitement, Competence, Sophistication and Ruggedness), only four were accepted for the result, since three of the five hotels indicated that they did not have any attribute linked to the Ruggedness dimension. The same happened with traits of low representation of any of the dimensions. For the purposes of conclusion, only the dimensions Sincerity, Excitement, Competence and Sophistication and some of their respective traits were identified by the five BioHotels formulating the personality of the green brand. It is suggested that more work in the scope of brand personality in the hotel industry be considered for future research, especially in brands in the sustainable segment.
