Abstract

Participatory plant breeding is an alternative to obtain new cultivars for organic agriculture, since it allows greater involvement of farmers, researchers and consumers. This work aim was to characterize the superior progenies of lettuce F2:4, from crosses between Salinas 88 and Colorado cultivars, previously selected using participatory plant breeding, in order to identify promising genotypes to secure new cultivars for organic agriculture. The commercial characteristics evaluated were coloration, border type, limb type, commercial classification, fresh mass, tolerance to early flowering, and seed production. It was verified that there is great genetic variability for agronomic characteristics in progenies of lettuce F 2:4 from crosses of Salinas 88 X Colorado, and it is necessary to add more generations, to identify homozygous material with desirable commercial characteristics.
