Abstract

The speciesSitophilus zeamaisis a major pest of stored corn in Brazil. To control it, synthetic insecticides are used, which is detrimental to man and the environment. Thus research is being developed to prepare proper solutions, with products less toxic and biodegradable. This study it was tested the toxicity of contact, fumigation, and topical repellency of essential oil from leaves of Schinus molle L about maizeweevil, S. zeamais. The oil was effective againstS. zeamaisdepending on the concentration through three-way poisoning: contact, fumigation and repellency. Thus presenting insectstatic effect by means these pathways. The insecticidal effect was low and only through the route of poisoning by topical application.
