Beekeeping in traditional communities of the Amazon

Native bees or stingless bees are widely distributed throughout the national territory and in the Amazon, created by traditional and indigenous populations long ago. The objective this study was to characterizing the properties and the rearing of native bees in four traditional communities of farmers in Parintins, Amazonas, Brazil. Studies were done in 363 colonies of 27 traditional farmers. Throughout monthly visits, all the bees’colonies were observed on it right management techniques of maintenance and rearing. Data were collected through a questionnaire applied to the farmers interested in participating in the project. It was observed that the main problem related to the stingless bees rearing is the lack of adequate rearing methodologies and technician assistance.
