Abstract

The fast decline of the available natural resources, indispensable to the human survival, it produces negative effects on social, environmental and economical areas. That decline takes to dislocation of the traditional populations of their territories, in search of sources of alternatives to guarantee economical return and sustain. Starting from this fact, this work's main focus is to describe a scenario, support on vast literature available, of an activity which is recent in Brazil, but with enormous potential. Showing important aspects should be approached with deeper efforts in the future, if the activity really will become a sustainable economic activity for the improvement of standards of life in coastal communities, contribute to relief the pressure on fishing stocks and increasing productivity and income.
