Abstract

The compost is alternatively used in agriculture to improve the physical condition and soil fertility. Aiming atunderstanding the chemical composition of bovine manure and leguminous plant; leucaena (Leucaena leucocephalaLam de Wit), and philippine pigeonwings (Clitoria fairchildianaHaward) in different proportions. The present projecthas been carried out at the School Farm of the State University of Maranhão (Fazenda Escola da UniversidadeEstadual do Maranhão - UEMA), in the city of São Luís. The experimental design was composed of random blockswith seven treatments and four repetitions: T1 – 75 kg of bovine manure + 25 kg of leucaena leaves; T2 - 50 kg ofbovine manure + 50 kg of leucaena leaves; T3 - 25 kg of bovine manure + 75 kg of leucaena leaves; T4 - 75 kg ofbovine manure + 25 kg of philippine pigeonwings leaves; T5 – 50 kg of bovine manure + 50 kg of philippinepigeonwings leaves; T6 – (witness) 100 kg of bovine manure. Samples of composted bovine manure and of thecomposts with leguminous plants have been analyzed for determining the chemical components. According toanalysis results the total levels of MO, Ph, P, K and Ca, Mg and H+Al have been higher than the witness’, in mosttreatments, constituting on alternative sources of fertilizers for agriculture.
