The way the built environment is produced, maintained and renovated nowadays is determinant to the current global unsustainability. In this context, the Circular Economy (CE) emerges as a proposition towards practical applications of the sustainable development principles in the Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC) sector, but it faces many barriers for its implementation. Building Information Modeling (BIM) is a candidate enabler in this transition, thus the objective of this work is to present an overview of its potential contribution and limitations to it through Systematic Review (SR), followed by a thematic analysis. From the findings, it is observed that BIM have a significant potential to contribute to the CE in the built environment, mainly to support circular analysis since early design phase, manage buildings as material banks, allow new workflows by computational adaptability and enable platforms for supply chain integration. Therefore, the CE can be benefited from BIM as an integrator of the supply chain and the built environment lifecycle(s).
