Abstract

The goal of this study was to develop a decision support tool able to cope with the new mobility planning paradigm that is currently emphasized by the Brazilian Ministry of the Cities. The model MARS, tool selected to replicate the dynamics of the urban development and the relationships between land use and transport was set up to the city of Porto Alegre. Eight different urban planning scenarios, related to different energy policies, were simulated for a time horizon of thirty years. The results drawn indicate that the model can be of great importance to studies of sustainable mobility urban planning.
