Abstract

This article explores the urban dynamics of downtown Ribeirão Preto (SP), applying the situationist dérive as a method to investigate the interactions between urban spaces and individuals’ subjective experiences. The analysis is conducted through the interpretations of Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guattari on the dérive, emphasizing a sensitive and intuitive exploration that reveals subtle nuances of the city, shaping its urban identity in ways not immediately visible. Using Deleuze’s concepts of time-image and movement-image, the study examines the interconnection between temporality and movement in the city's historical spaces. Time emerges as a protagonist, manifesting itself in buildings through processes of decay and revitalization, while the movement of bodies shapes the sensory and emotional experience of the space. The research demonstrates how the temporal overlay and the constant interaction between architecture, history, and moving bodies continuously reshape the urban landscape, offering a renewed reading of contemporary cities and the experiences unfolding within them.
