This article investigates, from the perspective of Systemic-Functional Linguistics (SFL) (HALLIDAY; MATTHIESSEN, 2014; HALLIDAY; HASAN, 1985), the exchange of meanings between writings by students who enrolled in the BA in Languages and Linguistics at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS) in 2014. Focusing on the interpersonal metafunction of language, the study emphasizes the resources of the semantic-discursive Negotiation system proposed by Martin and Rose (2007a) and Martin and White (2005). The methodological design considered the inherent relationship between text and context, using as a corpus of analysis writing tasks produced in Reading and Textual Production module, whose writing proposals are based on the dialogue between students' writings and rewritings, monitors’ feedback, and colleagues’ comments. For this study, the data selected includes (1) a monitor's feedback and (2) a colleague’s comment. The results indicate (i) the feasibility of studying Negotiation resources mainly in written texts and (ii) the negotiation of meanings through large, medium, and small exchanges instantiated in the writings. This article aims to contribute to the expansion of studies focused on the analysis of texts produced in Brazilian academic contexts in light of SFL.
