Alluding to Carlos Del Negro’s main works (Contribuição... e Nova Contribuição ao estudo da Pintura Mineira [1958 e 1978]), this paper refers to the actions taken by the author to study and learn the characteristics of the Brazilian heritage, including those of the colonial period. His works remain, even after decades of publishing, as a reference to the study of specific cases of architecture and painting and to the discussion on typologies and models. Besides that, these “Contribuições” (Contributions) are a source for the study of artworks and can also reveal the process of inventory and classification. This paper aims to explore the relationship between these publications and the heritage policies, and also shows the author’s and his partners’ understanding of the heritage.
