The text analyzes to what extent the evolution of Merleau-Ponty's thought receives the growing influence of Heidegger's ontology, while at the same time keeping him away from the latter by not renouncing certain fundamental principles of Husserl's phenomenology. Among such principles, the primacy of perceptual experience and the presence of the incarnated body stands out as irreducible conditions of openness to the “sense of being”, which contradicts the “logocentric” orientation, so to speak, of Heideggerian ontology and, above all, that which Heidegger understands as the ontological difference between being and being as such. Finally, it will be discussed how these fundamental differences, which Merleau-Ponty maintains in relation to Heidegger's ontology, is reflected in the radically different way in which each of them conceives the issue of art and particularly painting.
