Abstract

Emperor Constantine I is a central political figure in Late Antiquity, a period between the 3rd and 8th centuries CE. Furthermore, he is a character subject to numerous criticisms in the work New History, written by the sixth-century historian Zosimus. Therefore, the objective of this work is to expose how Constantine I is represented in this work, as well as observe the way in which the author uses
representation and memory to construct the narrative about the emperor. To achieve this objective, we will use Book II of the New History, and we will analyse the passages together with the description of the historical context to understand Zosimus’ intentions in representing the emperor in the way he did.
