The analysis and interpretation of the poem “Epigrama nº. 8”, by Cecília Meireles, aim at contributing to a critical appreciation and visibility of her poetical work. Specifically, we intend to investigate and exemplify the relationship between the formal rigidity and brevity of the epigram and the subjective experience that has motivated it. The discussion of the poem emphasizes the function and effect of the metaphors, so as to articulate them, in a first moment, with the poet’s vision of the ephemeral and, eventually, with the notion of “liquid love”, by the Polish sociologist Zygmunt Bauman.
