Abstract

The plot of “Nós choramos pelo Cão Tinhoso” (“We Cried for Mangy-Dog”) by the Angolan writer Ondjaki presents an intertextual dialogue with “Nós matamos o Cão Tinhoso” (“We Killed the Mangy-Dog”) by the Mozambican author Luís Bernardo Honwana. The analysis of Ondjaki’s short story was based on the perspective of memory representation in the construction of the narrative plot. In this particular analysis we have taken
into consideration both fictional memory, in relation to the intertextual dialogue established with the Mozambican short story, and also historical memory, in regard to the African archive, constituted by violent and traumatic events.
