Abstract

This essay explores the complex relationship between poetics and politics in textuality, using the metaphor of the pores of difference, referring to an opening to the outside, to discuss the possibility of the poetic. To this aim, I articulate how it is revealed through a poetics and a politics that simultaneously cover and expose life, focusing on concepts such as the invisibility of the pore and the aporetic nature of touch. Starting from a detailed analysis of Emily Dickinson, interpreting her “alba” in an unconventional way, I discuss a fragment of Sappho, examining the difficulties of translation and the limits of mortality in the face of the impossibility of touching an image. The proposal combines the idea of différance with the argument that poetics resides in exposure to aporia and the insistent erasure of presence, and criticism of the idealistic aspect of representation.
