Résumé

Rainer Maria Rilke (1969) escreveu essas palavras à sua mulher Clara, ema Paris, a 2 de setembro de 1902. Tinha visitado Rodin e descrevia as dificuldades que tivera para falar com o escultor. Rodin “perguntou e disse muitas coisas, nada de importante”, escreveu Rilke. “A barreira da língua é grande demais.” Mostrou seus poemas a Rodin, que os folheou. “Acho que o formato o surpreendeu...” , comentou Rilke. A imagem òe Rilke sobre as duas pontes é notável porque descreve várias das situações de campo por que passa o antropólogo. Rilke provavelmente sabia mais francês do que a maioria dos antropólogos sabe a língua dos povos que estudam. Por sua vez, Rodin não falava alemão.
