Information literacy of executive secretaries of graduate programs at the Federal University of Bahia

This is an ongoing study that aims to assess how the information literacy of graduate program secretaries at the Federal University of Bahia aligns with the information literacy standards established by the American Library Association (ALA). Based on this general objective, the doctoral research seeks to: outline the profile of graduate program secretaries; examine how these professionals use information mediation practices to perform their work within the institutional environment; identify the information literacy profiles present among graduate program secretaries according to the ala standards and performance indicators; and, finally, propose a methodology focused on the development of information literacy, based on ALA standards and oriented toward secretarial professionals. The methodological approach consists of a monographic procedure (multiple case studies), with a descriptive level, adopting both qualitative and quantitative perspectives. Data collection will be carried out through a self-administered electronic questionnaire containing closed-ended and semi-open questions. The study will include secretaries assigned to the 89 academic and professional graduate programs across all areas of knowledge at the university. Partial results indicate that information mediation practices have proven to be a determining factor in job performance, contributing positively to the activities carried out by graduate program secretaries.
