A relação da saúde e saneamento tem sido adotada a partir de uma visão preventista restrita. nessa perspectiva os autores questionam, mediante argumentos conceituais, a inadequação dessa visão propugnando a necessidade de uma visão de promoção da saúde bem como a sua aderência com os princípios da sustentabilidade. Dessa forma, o livro torna-se uma contribuição importante para demarcação dos objetivos da sustentabilidade na sua abrangência plena no campo da saúde.
