A palestra Os desafios da Rio+20, proferida por Ignacy Sachs, foi apresentada no âmbito do fórum “Quartas Sustentáveis”, no dia 8 de setembro de 2011, no Centro de Desenvolvimento Sustentável da Universidade de Brasília, Brasil. Às vésperas da Rio+20, a palestra do Prof. professor Sachs precedeu o seminário internacional, também realizado pelo CDS, denominado Preparando a Rio+20, propondo um mundo mais sustentável, no qual foram discutidas as implicações do evento que avaliará os acontecimentos ocorridos nos 20 anos que se seguiram à Rio-92. A palestra foi introduzida pelo Diretor do CDS, Prof. Saulo Rodrigues Filho. A palestra do Prof. Sachs foi transcrita e editada a partir da gravação feita ao vivo. Muitos participantes fizeram perguntas e observações, que foram aqui resumidas e incorporadas pelos editores de Sustentabilidade em Debate. A palestra do Prof. Sachs e os temas debatidos foram reunidos e editados em tópicos temáticos, para facilitar a leitura.
