"It's just a copy"
Notes about the History of Art and the critical value of the reproductions

Starting from the "little prestigious" position that copies occupy in the History of Art, this article develops arguments aimed at protecting the critical potential of these reproductions. To this end, through the objection which is commonly addressed to them - "it's just a copy" - the History of Art is thought by reductionist way that teaches us to see art objects solely by reference to the vague notion of "origin". Finally, we propose a perspective shift, from which we start to consider copies in its "opacity" and therefore according to their critical value.
