Este artigo discute os modelos e as transformações da iconografia dos seres feéricos entre a Baixa Idade Média e o século XX. Partindo-se de uma breve exposição das principais concepções sobre esses seres na cultura medieval, e discutindo-se então suas transformações subseqüentes, busca-se determinar, aproximativamente, quando e de que modo lhes foram atribuídas seus elementos iconográficos mais característicos, discutindo-se o papel que tiveram nesse processo a iconografia clássica e o medievalismo romântico.
