Abstract

A measure of reflection in learning was developed from several sources of information. The determination of
scale properties was done with medical students of both sexes and involved measures of internal consistency, test-retest
reliability and factor analysis, as well as assessment of criteria and construct validity. The results showed high internal consistency
(alpha = 0,81) and moderate temporal stability (test-retest correlation = 0,71 after three months). Correlation studies
revealed significant correlation of scale score with an analogue scale, grade point average and three measures related to selfmonitoring
of learning. Overall, the findings provide evidence for the reliability and validity of the scale and support its use in
educational research on reflection in learning.
