BEHAVIOR SENSITIVITY TO MAGNITUDE OF REINFORCEMENT:
EFFECTS OF NUMBER OF EXPERIMENTALCONDITIONS WITH SESSION OF LONG DURATION
Abstract
Two pigeons with previous exposure to concurrentschedules were submitted to eleven conditions with equal variableinterval concurrent schedules (conc VI3min, VI3min). Each conditionhad different values of the reinforcement duration (2.5 to 15.0 s), andlasted an eight-hour session. The sensitivity of behavior to variations inmagnitude of reinforcement, measured by the exponent of thegeneralized matching equation, increased as the time elapsed from thefirst to the last hour of the session and decreased with increases innumber of experimental conditions. Some disagreement in the literature,about effects of frequency and reinforcement duration can be explainedthrough these results.
