Focus and Scope

The Journal of Resaerch Studies on the Americas (ISSN 1984-1639) receives works in the form of essays (free texts that include discussions of the Social Sciences on and from the Americas), reviews (critical reviews of the literature on subjects of interest for the development of the Social Sciences in dialogue with thought and the Social Sciences on and from the Americas) and original and unpublished articles (theoretical and conceptual analyses and discussions, empirically based, that contribute to the understanding of the societies of the American continent and the Caribbean and to comparative studies on the Americas.

The Journal only publishes articles and essays written by authors with a doctorate degree. For authors who do not have such a degree, it is recommended that the article be co-authored with collaborators who hold a doctorate.

The journal also accepts book reviews and interviews submitted by masters, doctoral students and PhDs. Papers may be submitted at any time of the year in Portuguese, Spanish or English. They may also be published in other languages ​​at the discretion of the editorial committee.

The Journal's mission is to receive, analyze, publish and disseminate studies and research that include:

i - research themes and problems shared by the different societies of the continent and the Caribbean;

ii - analyses of studies and research carried out in the field of Social Sciences on or from the Americas and the Caribbean;

iii - contributions of social and political thought, classical or contemporary social theory and research methodologies developed in or about the Americas and the Caribbean.

Peer review process

1. The submitted papers will be assessed by the journal's editorial committee for a preliminary review regarding the publication standards and suitability to the journal's focus and scope. Failure to comply with the submission guidelines or failure to comply with the journal's focus and scope will result in the submission being rejected;

2. After the preliminary review, the editorial team will submit the original to two or more experts with doctorates in the subject for evaluation to issue opinions, without knowledge of its authorship (blind review format);

3. When there is an approval evaluation and another rejection evaluation, the text will be submitted to a third conclusive evaluation;

4. The authors will be notified of the acceptance or rejection of their papers;

5. The evaluations will include the following options: accept; revisions required; reject or submit to a new round. In the latter case, it will be up to the editorial team to decide on the direction, always based on the information provided by the evaluators;

6. Suggestions for changes to the structure, form or content will be communicated to the authors, who will be responsible for making them within a deadline to be previously stipulated;

7. The entire submission, analysis, review and publication process, as well as all communications pertinent to the publication process, will be carried out through the journal's online platform.

Open access policy

This journal offers free and open access to its content, aiming to provide democratization of access to scientific knowledge, in particular, that which comes from research carried out with public resources.

All content of the journal is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution BY License.

Archiving

1. Duties of editors

I. Publication decisions

The editor and the editorial committee or guest editors are responsible for deciding which articles submitted to the journal should be published. The editor will take into account legal requirements regarding matters such as defamation, copyright infringement and plagiarism. Controversial cases or those not covered by the editorial policy will be referred to the editorial committee in the first instance and to the Editorial Board in the second instance for a final decision.

II. Fair play

The editor, editorial committee and guest editors evaluate the manuscript for its strictly intellectual content, without distinction of race, sex, sexual orientation, religious beliefs, ethnic origin, nationality or political party affiliation of the authors.

III. Confidentiality

The editor must not disclose any information about a submitted text to anyone other than the corresponding author, the reviewers, and the members of the team and editorial board, as applicable.

IV. Disclosure and conflicts of interest

Unpublished material disclosed in a submitted text must not be used in the editors' own research without the express written consent of the authors.

2. Duties of reviewers or evaluators

I. Contribution to editorial decisions

Reviewers assist the editor, editorial committee and guest editors in making editorial decisions through communication with the editor. The reviews provide for the possibility of helping authors improve their work, but on an anonymous basis, and may not be listed as co-authors.

II. Punctuality

Any guest reviewer who considers himself/herself unable to review the submissions must withdraw from the review process through the corresponding option on the journal's website.

III. Confidentiality

The papers received for review must be treated by the reviewers as confidential documents. They must not be shown or discussed with others, except with the express authorization of the editor.

IV. Standards of objectivity

Reviews and reviews must be conducted and written objectively. Personal criticism of the authors is inappropriate. Reviewers must express their opinions clearly, using arguments, data or examples that support their evaluation.

V. Acknowledgement of sources

Reviewers should identify relevant published work that has not been cited by the authors. Any claim that an observation, derivation, or argument has been published before should be accompanied by a citation of the relevant source. A reviewer should also draw the editor's attention to any substantial similarity or overlap between the text in question and any other published work of which the reviewer has personal knowledge.

VI. Disclosure and conflict of interest

Privileged information or ideas obtained through reading the texts should be kept confidential and should not be used for the personal gain of the reviewers. Reviewers should not consider texts in which they have conflicts of interest resulting from competition, collaboration, or other relationships or connections with any of the authors, companies, or institutions connected to the texts.

3. Duties of authors

I. Reporting of standards and procedures

Authors of original texts should present accurate and detailed descriptions of the research work performed, as well as an objective analysis of its significance.

II. Underlying data should be presented accurately in the text

A paper should contain sufficient detail and references to allow others to verify the accuracy of the work and confirm the sources used. Fraudulent or intentionally inaccurate statements constitute unethical behavior and are unacceptable.

III. Access and retention of data

Authors may be asked to provide the raw data related to the submitted text for the purpose of editorial review. And, if possible, they should in any case be prepared to retain this data for a reasonable period of time after publication.

IV. Originality and plagiarism

Authors should ensure that they have written entirely original works; if the authors have used the work or words of others, they should ensure that these are properly cited or referenced.

V. Multiple, redundant or concurrent publication

Authors should not publish manuscripts describing essentially the same research in more than one journal or primary publication without prior authorization. Should articles be republished, the journal reserves the right to notify the journal to request the exclusion of the article and ensure its precedence. Additionally, submitting the same text to more than one journal, simultaneously or consecutively, without prior authorization constitutes unethical behavior and is unacceptable.

VI. Acknowledgement of sources

Adequate acknowledgement of the work of other researchers should always be made. Authors should cite all publications that have been used directly in determining the nature and results of the reported work.

VII. Authorship of the article

Authorship should be limited to those who have made a significant contribution to the conception, preparation or interpretation of the data of the reported study. All those who have made significant contributions should be listed as co-authors. If there are others who participated in certain substantive aspects of the research, they may be mentioned as collaborators.

The corresponding author should ensure that all co-authors are included in the submission. You must also ensure that all co-authors have seen and approved the final version of the document and agreed to its submission for publication.

At the time of submission, the email addresses of all co-authors must be provided. After that, all communication will be made only with the corresponding author.

VIII. Disclosure and conflicts of interest

All authors must disclose in the text any financial, professional or other substantive conflicts of interest that could be interpreted as influencing the results of the research or the interpretation of these results. In addition, all sources of financial support for the project must be disclosed.

IX. Fundamental errors in published works

When an author discovers a significant error or inaccuracy in his or her own published work, it is his or her obligation to immediately notify the journal's editorial team and collaborate in retracting or correcting the article.
