Abstract

The psychotypological studies proposed by Kellerman (1986) aren’t given much credit recently. In this sense, using the psychotypological theory, this research relies on issues related to the
translinguistic influences between L1 and L2. We will struggle to clarify if languages which share similar morphosyntax with the Brazilian Portuguese receive more linguistic transference or
interference from Brazilian learners. In order to accomplish this research, multiple-choice tests will be given to bilinguals in English and Japanese. Afterwards, the data will be collected and counted. This will allow us to compare the transferences and interferences suffered by the L2 used in this study. Furthermore, we will analyze the relation between linguistic and psychological issues. We aim to bring up some understandings to the Applied Linguistics area in order to improve approaches used in language learning and teaching. The major aim of this research is to isolate interferences and enhance transferences of L1 on L2.
