Abstract

The objective of this paper was to evaluate the use of juçara seed, as source of substrate to production of vegetable seedlings. The experiments were conducted in a completely randomized design with four treatments and four repetitions for each treatment. The treatments were: fermented triturated juçara seed, compound based on triturated juçara seed and cattle manure; triturated carbonized juçara seed; and Basaplant commercial substrate. The vegetable tested were: a) fruits vegetable: okra (Abelmoschus esculentus) e tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum); b) flower vegetable: cauliflower (Brassica oleracea var. botrytis); c) leafy vegetable: lettuce (Lactuca sativa). The evaluations were: number of leaves, leaf area, fresh and dry weight of shoot, root and the total number of vegetable seedlings produced. The substrate 1 (fermented triturated juçara seed) was the best for production of tomato seedlings, okra and cauliflower, while the substrate 2 (compound based on triturated juçara and manure) showed the best results in the production of lettuce seedlings.
