Abstract

The purpose of the article is to contribute to the elaboration of conceptual and theoretical foundations for the analysis and formulation of public policies for the promotion of Agroecology, especially from a critical examination of the concept of wealth proposed by authors connected to ecological economics and Marxist theory of value. The results indicate the need for a full recognition of the importance of value generation led by public policies, as well as its potential for the promotion of sustainable development by keeping the natural resources as collective goods. It is concluded that, through appropriate public policies, peasant agriculture, within the framework of Agroecology, could become an important component of a sphere of production of wealth and monetary nonmarket values, able to develop in a sustainable way and independent of any financial or economic support of the capitalist sphere.
