Abstract

This study commercial agroforestry systems adopted by farmers in the municipality of Altamira Pará was to characterize. We used participatory and multidisciplinary approach, Participatory Rural Appraisal and Rapid Rural Appraisal tools. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and analysis of factors. The systems are composed of fruit species and forest trees. The Khaya senegalensis DESR (A. Juss), Copaiba sp., Carapa guianensis Aubl, Bertolletia excelsa Mart. and Euterpe oleracea Mart. were of most interest to farmers. The SAF are established and managed in a traditional shape and large part of the activities is performed manually. The lack of funding and support are the main limitations to the performance. The increased production and product prices are the main aspirations of farmers. Factors affecting the adoption of FAS in Altamira were profitability, food security and environmental conservation.
