Cassava varieties behavior during fertilization in rain-dependent communities in Brazilian semiarid region

Abstract

The aim of this study was to observe the behavior of cassava varieties undergo fertilization in communities on rain dependent Pereiros, Mudubim and Caiçara in Brazilian semiarid. Despite the knowledge of cassava tolerance to water deficit and marginal soils, little is known about the productive potential of different varieties in use of fertilizer in areas dependent on rainfall in semiarid. Experiments were conducted with fertilization and cassava varieties in three communities in areas dependent on rain. The results show that despite the drought (rain 209 e 747mm), liming and phosphorus fertilization resulted in higher yields of the tested varieties, and achieved better responses in the community Pereiros where the variety presented Brasilia root yield 24.9 t ha-1, almost twice the average Northeast.
