The study was conducted from January to September 2009 in a greenhouse at Embrapa Temperate Climate Experiment Station Cascata/RS. There is no silvicultural information aboutE. edulisandR. regia. ruled on this region of the state, therefore, is necessary to seek a system enabling expand production of palm trees. The objective was to evaluate the effect of different substrates on initial plant growth ofE. eduliandR. regia. The treatments were: T1, Plantmax ®, T2, forest soil, T3, loamy soil; T4, forest soil / clay soil 1:1; T5, soil bush / carbonized rice husk 3:1; T6, soil bush / carbonized rice husk 1:1; T7, soil bush / rice husk fresh 1:1; T8, loamy soil / carbonized rice husk 3:1; T9, loamy soil / carbonized rice husk 1:1; T10, loamy soil / rice husk in natura 1:1. The design was randomized block design with four replications and four plants per plot. The evaluations were performed at biweekly intervals. It was observed E.edulis good vegetative growth T2 and T3.R. regia, there was good responses T5, T1, T6 and T10. We conclude that the use of forest soil substrates or clay soil mixture, and rice husk raw or charred, presented good vegetative growth.
